Senior Mechanical Engineer with focus on Robust Design & GPS - R&D, Oticon

Would you like to work in the hot spot between technical product development and technical management? And would you like to participate together with other Senior Mechanical engineers to develop the competence area of the mechanical group in general? 


Join the Mechanics team
You will be part of Oticon’s group for Hardware Acoustics and Mechanics in Smørum, close to Copenhagen. We are part of the Hardware function and focus on the development of new multi brand platforms. Overall, we are about 60 highly skilled colleagues with mechanical and electro-acoustic backgrounds. We work all the way from the early concept phases to final introduction to production. 


In Hardware Acoustics & Mechanics department, we are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with proven skills in Robust Design and Geometrical Product Specifications (GPS). This means that you, with your background within the area, your people skills and communication skills, are able to drive activities within Robust Design and GPS, review specifications to the highest standard, teach, empower and motivate your colleagues.


Driving the Robust Design and GPS agenda 
We focus on functional specifications and predictable interfaces, making our highly integrated miniature devices perform as expected every day, while optimizing assembly flow and cost improvement. You will be driving the improvements within the areas of Robust Design and GPS together with other experts in the area, metrology, toolshop and other relevant stakeholders.


To stay close to project deliveries you can be assigned to projects, do smaller development tasks or assist in creating robust and predictable designs. 


Your daily work tasks could include:

  • Supporting single or several Mechanical Engineers in Robust Design and GPS
  • Drive the specification, design and documentation work
  • Take part in design reviews
  • Set up design review processes within Robust Design and GPS
  • Approve part specifications for production release
  • Design and develop parts for project deliveries
  • Create measurement alignments with Metrology in our factory in Poland


You will also participate in the competence development of our department. Daily work tasks could be:

  • Define and/or adjust internal processes with mechanical development
  • Maintain competence map and define direction for competence development
  • Plan and supervise competence tasks for the Mechanical Developers
  • Train and support developers in areas of expertise
  • Ensure knowledge sharing among developers

Your daily interfaces will be employees dealing with end-user testing, the electro acoustical design, electronics design, audiology, production, FEM simulations, Industrial designers, and marketing. Furthermore, you will work in cross-disciplinary projects utilizing Demant´s own prototype center with RPT technology and facilities for making micro-mechanical prototypes.

You can expect 5-20 travel days a year, visiting suppliers and our production site in Poland.


Your experience as Senior Mechanical Engineer 
We expect you to have a B.Sc. or M.Sc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or alike and you have several years of work experience creating mechanical solutions. Probably, you have experience in areas like:

  • Mechanical development and design within mass produced products
  • ME integration of electronics design (PCB, connectors, batteries, radios etc.)
  • Robust design (Tolerance analysis, DFM, DFA)
  • Geometrical Product Specifications (GPS / GD&T)
  • Experience with PTC Creo 3D CAD 


You have an analytical and curious mindset and a big interest in technical challenges. Furthermore, you are a team player who likes to work in cross-professional development teams, motivated by product development with a clear focus on customer needs. You know what it means to deliver quality solutions and you thrive navigating among many stakeholders.
