Senior Mechanical Engineer

Would you like to work in the hot spot between technical product development and technical management? And would you like to participate together with other Senior Mechanical engineers to develop the competence area of the mechanical group in general? 


Oticon is a part of the Demant Group. Our R&D department embraces the whole circle of development in-house. In Hardware Acoustics & Mechanics department, we are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with the skills of being both a Technical Project Lead and a Competence Development Lead. This means that you, with your strong background within the technical area, stakeholder management, planning skills, people skills and communication skills, are able to coach, empower and motivate your colleagues.

In this job, you will be part of Oticon’s group for Hardware Acoustics and Mechanics in Smørum, close to Copenhagen. We are part of the Hardware function and focus on the development of new multi brand platforms. Overall, we are about 60 highly skilled colleagues with mechanical and electro-acoustic backgrounds. Our goal is to deliver discreet industry leading hearing healthcare platforms through increased specialization, strategic reuse and modularization. We challenge conventional solutions to enhance both end-user and customer satisfaction. We work all the way from the early concept phases to final introduction to production.


Putting your fingerprint on our projects!
You can look forward to putting your own fingerprint on new and running projects. We do in depth mechanical design in cross-functional teams, ensuring the technical overview and quality. You are able to dig deep and spare with people, and also get the big picture by sparring with the project manager. Your daily product development work tasks could include:

  • Supporting single or several mechanical developers in their daily work
  • Drive the specification, design and documentation work
  • Supporting the project manager in planning the daily project activities
  • Planning and executing design reviews including documentation
  • Drive the requirements process for new projects

You can expect 5-20 travel days a year, visiting suppliers and our production site in Poland.


As a Senior Mechanical engineer, you will also participate in the competence development of our department. Daily work tasks could be: 

  • Defining and/or adjusting internal processes with mechanical development
  • Maintain competence map and define direction for competence development
  • Plan and supervise competence tasks for the mechanical developers
  • Train and support developers in areas of expertise
  • Ensure knowledge sharing among developers


Your daily interfaces will be employees dealing with end-user testing, the electro acoustical design, electronics design, audiology, production, FEM simulations, Industrial designers, and marketing. You will work in cross-disciplinary projects utilizing Demant´s own prototype center with RPT technology and facilities for making micro-mechanical prototypes.


Your experience as Senior Mechanical engineer 
We expect you to have a B.Sc. or M.Sc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or alike. You have minimum 5+ years of work experience creating mechanical solutions. Probably, you have experience in areas like: 

  • Mechanical development and design within medical- or small consumer electronic devices
  • ME integration of electronics design (PCB, connectors, batteries, radios etc.)
  • Robust design (Tolerance, DFM, DFA)
  • Experience with PTC Creo 3D CAD and GPS/2D specification


You have an analytical and curious mindset and a big interest in technical challenges. Furthermore, you are a team player that likes to work in cross-professional development teams, motivated by product development with a clear focus on customer needs. You know what it means to deliver quality solutions and you thrive navigating among many stakeholders.
